BARBARA S. WIMER
Barbara is a “home girl” who has been in the Cabinet
Secretary’s Office since it was established in 1989.
While she considers herself and this level of Government
still in their growing stages, she is no stranger to state
government. In July of
2006, she celebrated her 33rd anniversary with the State
of
West Virginia
.
Barbara sports two college degrees.
Her first round of college allowed her to obtain an Associate
Arts Degree in Business which started her on her way.
Several years later and a desire to become an art therapist,
she went back to college and obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree
graduating with honors. The
biggest challenge she faces on a daily basis is trying to remember
not to draw on the important papers.
In her role as the Administrative Services Manager for the
Secretary’s Office, she’s responsible for developing budget
needs/schedules, researching new procedures and improvements for the
office/department, analyzing, interpreting and evaluating statutes,
regulations and policies both on the state and federal levels, monitoring
all human resource activities and tackling all “other things”
the Secretary throws through her door.
In addition to all of the above and at the Secretary’s
request, she monitors many of the same activities for the eleven
agencies that make up the Department of Military Affairs and Public
Safety.
In one of her other lives, she is very active on the local, regional
and international levels of the professional organization known as
IPMA-HR (International Public Management Association for Human
Resources). She has been
a member since 1997 and just recently ended her term as the
President for the Eastern Region.
In her role as Immediate Past President, she still sits on
the Eastern Region Board and serves as the liaison to both the
West Virginia
and Western Pennsylvania Chapters.
In her coveted spare time, she reverts back to the artist world.
By combining her love of quilting, embroidery and color, she
works at creating those odd pieces of wearable art.
Tucked into the strewn pieces of leftover cloth and fiber,
you will find a husband who has learned to be very tolerant of her
“creative things” and her wonderful furry, four-legged friend,
Moonie, who just loves the color blue.
Barbara also teaches quilting at one of the local shops.
